  SINGING IN THE AFR-AM TRADITION
by: YSAYE BARNWELL
From a workshop designed by Dr. Barnwell and co-leader George Brandon, these  teaching tapes grow from a conviction  that African American music has been a  vehicle for survival in a hostile  environment as well as for humanizing  that environment. It teaches calls and  chants, spirituals, ring shouts, hymns,  jubilees, gospels, songs of the Civil  Rights movement and contemporary songs  of struggle. And it aims to build  community through the music it spreads.  Dr. Barnwell welcomes everyone to  participate in her workshops.  (Track listings only from CD1 of 4 CD  collection).
