" Lauren Wood must have a heart as big as her hairdo. She's given us a new CD-full of it, and any portion she shares is always a delight. This is more than the lovely, expressive music, this is Lauren asking us to share in her deep appreciation of life-and-the-living, as rewarding as it is painful. She has always, admirably, opened herself to us through her music, and now gives us the gift of songs that communicate the feelings that important, inevitable life passages inspire. With her seductive, versatile voice, she sings us lyrics that speak to our trepidation about sharing our feelings, and lucidly advises us to let it out. The title of the CD tells it all: lovingly crafted songs about relationships, the passing of loved ones, and yes, customer service.
Lauren is often all about that intimacy dance, our dogged need for it, and the costs and benefits derived from dancing it. "Contradictions" will resonate with anyone that's experienced one of those push/pull relationships. And who hasn't?
The beautiful "Cora's Theme" inspires an envy of the lucky, if lost, Cora, to have someone express so much devoton to your well-being.
Lyrically, Lauren doesn't hedge. Listen to "Til Now", especially if you've ever let someone believe you cared as much as they do to protect your own interests. She'll tell you exactly what she thinks of your bad behaviour, and give you a glimpse of what empathy is for. And you'll be a better person for it.
"You Gotta Love Those Guys" is a generously understated open letter to those woefully inevitable marketers whose income depends on how they can tap yours, regardless of their intrusion into a life that has nothing to do with them.
And in the midst of all this, two exquisite songs for the hearts of those of us who have experienced the passing of dearly loved ones: "The Waiting Room", and "Walk Toward the Light".
The musical personnel know what Lauren needs, and provides that in spades. Cousin Novi Novog's sweet viola is here, as always, to provide a hint of lushness to the expert combo arrangements. Thank you, Lauren. We needed this CD. The wait's been excruciating, but the result has been so much more than worth it. It sounds like you've been busy feeling, and we now get to feel the benefit. "

" Lauren's newest album is an infectious blend of her sultry voice and innovative instrumentation. You can feel the dedication and time put into the production of this album in it's perfected melodies and mix of sound. It's a rarity to find an artist so entirely immersed in the perfection of her sound. Alternately upbeat and entrancingly sweet, this is an album that everyone needs to own. The digitized tracks don't even begin to give the lushness of sound on this album justice. If you want the full experience, get the physical CD, so that you can hear this music the way it was meant to be heard. She may be best known for her song "Fallen" from the Pretty Woman soundtrack, but with Love, Death, & Customer Service Lauren has proven that her experience and talent put her in a category all her own. Again, a must listen! "
